Chair Yoga – getting started

Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that can be practiced by people of all ages and fitness levels, especially those with limited mobility or joint pain. It involves performing yoga postures while seated in a chair, making it accessible to individuals who may find traditional yoga poses challenging. It’s often also a gentle way to stretch for office workers, and those who lead an otherwise sedentary lifestyle – when you’ve not exercised for a long time, and when projects like Couch to 5k even look daunting, Chair Yoga is a great way to get into the fitness you need.  We’ll be adding Chair Yoga videos to our membership some point in the new Year, but until then we thought we’d offer an overview and some free videos to get you started.

Benefits of Chair Yoga

  • Improved Flexibility: Regular practice can increase flexibility in the joints and muscles.
  • Enhanced Strength: Chair yoga can help build strength, particularly in the core and upper body.
  • Stress Reduction: The calming and mindful nature of yoga can help reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Better Balance: Chair yoga can improve balance and coordination.
  • Increased Energy: Regular practice can boost energy levels and alleviate fatigue.
